Studio Toys Pt.2

Author: Stitchy McYizzleski

For those who don't make records, this is a picture of the nexus of my (and most professional audio facilities) studio: Protools TDM Mix3 rig...racked and ready to be on location.
The newest part of the rig is the purple rack, the Apogee AD-8000 24 bit AD/DA converter. My girl almost broke a bottle over my head when I told her how much it cost but the quality is solid professional standard and my clients are already sold on the improvement. Something I've noticed about professional recordings as ProTools rigs have taken over the need for a 2" 24 track tape machine for recordings, the converters are really the most critical link between what you want to record analog (ie: a microphone, sampler, bass DI) and the sonic fidelity of the actual recording that is digital on the DAW/Computer. If you do music even for fun, and record onto the computer, it is DEFINITELY worth your time to pick up a great set of Analog to Digital converters...and IMO 24/44.1 is plenty...
