If it's not a priority yet, holding out
for a good price on a true 1080p display is
probably the way to go. In my world, PROGRESSIVE displays beat INTERLACED ones, hands down.

What the hell is 'PROGRESSIVE display' mean anyway?

PROGRESSIVE = like most, if not all computer
displays, each "frame" is drawn from top to
bottom. More film-like in the sense that you
are seeing successive and complete frames.
...versus INTERLACED = like most NTSC television
sets or any HD displays that note "i", as 1080i.
This means the every other line is drawn then the
beam goes back to the top and draws the opposite
every-other line. Referred to as individual fields.
Sometimes called odd and even or upper and
lower, fields. This gives contributes to that "live"
look of video. Two field appear to us to be
displayed together. This is why screen grabs from
video look shitty and have a tearing or soft look. The reason for interlacing was from back-in- the-day when early tv technicians tried to cram as much info in to signals as possible. The alternating field approach meant only having to send half as much data at a time. It's an archaic system that should have been abandoned long ago.
